Jury Service
Jury Service Information
The Office of the Jury Commissioner is charged with the responsibility of securing jurors for Criminal and Civil trials being conducted by the Butte County Superior Court. The office secures jurors through a process governed by the California Code of Civil Procedure.
Jury Selection
Potential juror names are selected at random from lists of registered voters and persons who have valid California drivers licenses or identification cards issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. These two lists are combined to create one Master Jury List. Each week, prospective jurors are randomly selected from the list and sent a Summons to appear for service approximately five weeks prior to the service date.

For Jurors summoned to Oroville
If you have received a summons, you may be eligible for a postponement or, in some circumstances, an excuse from service.
Requests for postponements
Requests for postponements may be made online, by phone at (530) 532-7001 during regular business hours, or in writing addressed to the Office of the Jury Commissioner, One Court Street, Oroville, CA 95965.
Requests to be excused
Requests to be excused may be made online, or in writing.
Online requests must be made more than seven days prior to the date you were summonsed to appear. If your request is being made less than seven days before the date you were summonsed to appear, please contact the court by phone.
If you are summoned to appear, instructions on your summons will direct you to contact the court for confirmation of your appearance date. As trials are often resolved in advance, the court uses this process to provide last-minute information to jurors and, hopefully, only require as many jurors to appear as will be needed for selection.
